This way of getting new customers is the most tried and tested and also the most powerful because it comes from a third party with (seemingly) nothing to prove. You should have some happy and loyal customers who would be happy to 'sell' on behalf of you.

If you think what it costs you to advertise to get every new customer, bearing in mind how many people come to you and then how many of these people actually buy from you; the cost to retain a paying customer is probably a lot higher than you think. What if you motivated people, friends and existing customers, to sell for you with a promise of a percentage? The cut for the other person would need to make it worth their while, say 5-10%, but would that cut your costs and, more importantly, isn't their penetration going to be a lot more valuable.

Don't see it as giving money away, more as getting more money in. Remember, as soon as you start to fill for the year, you can put your prices up accordingly.
